Mrs. Mandryk's OOC/ OOD Kindergarten

A Community of Growth

Hello Kindergarten parents! Welcome to our school and an exciting year ahead of learning, play and exploration.

Current Events

Letter of the week

We have finished all letters- upper case, lower case and the sounds that the letters make now. We will continue to review and begin working on word blends, such as, sh and ch for those who are ready to extend their learning.

As our children are all at different points with knowing letters, we provide a variety of information about each letter we focus on.
They need to first be able to recognize the letter (both upper and lower case) and then know the sound. In class, they have an action for all the letter sounds so if they can tell you the name, ask them what the sound (and accompanying action) is. If they know both the letter name and sound, they can think of words that start with the sound (or even harder end with the sound).

Rainbow Words, Home Reading and Small Reading Groups

The rainbow letter sheet sent home prior to the break will be part of our daily practice. Once your child becomes comfortable with the words, please let me know and I can test them on them so that they can move along at the pace that they set for themselves.

Home Reading books will be sent home on Monday. They will get three books per week. These books are for them to mimic what we do in our Small Reading Groups. The initial focus is how books/ text  is organized and the child is expected to point the words as they are read and following the direction that text is recorded.

Please see emails specific to these three programs and email if you have any questions.
